Phytopathological diagnosis and tree stability assessment

For over twenty years, Studio Associato Planta has specialised in tree stability assessment and tree risk management, combining extensive professional experience, scientific rigour and advanced diagnostic technologies.

Assessments are carried out in accordance with nationally and internationally recognised methodologies and protocols, with reference to the European Tree Standards, American National Standards (ANSI), and guidance issued by leading organisations and institutions such as the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the USDA Forest Service and the National Park Service.

Urban environments

• Visual Tree Assessment (VTA®);
• Pulling Tests, using controlled load tests;
• QTRA – Quantified Tree Risk Assessment, for quantitative tree risk assessment;
• advanced instrumental diagnostic investigations.

Extensive green areas

For parks, wooded areas and extensive tree populations, assessment protocols with progressively increasing levels of detail are applied according to site characteristics and intensity of use:

    • ETD – Technical Documentary Assessment;
    • ESM – Extensive Rapid Assessment;
    • ESP – Individual Rapid Assessment;
    • CF – Phytopathological Survey.

PHYTOPATHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS AND IDENTIFICATION OF TREE PESTS AND DISEASES

The Studio carries out phytopathological diagnosis and identification of the main biotic and abiotic disorders affecting trees, through the examination of symptoms and signs, sample collection and subsequent laboratory observations and analyses.

When required, isolation techniques and microscopic examinations are performed to identify fungi and other causal agents responsible for diseases and disorders, integrating laboratory findings with the symptomatological evidence observed in the field.

ADVANCED INSTRUMENTAL DIAGNOSTICS

The Studio has a comprehensive range of specialised diagnostic equipment for investigating the condition of tree stems, root systems and the surrounding soil.

Of particular importance are investigations using the TreeRadar Unit (TRU™), a highly specialised, non-invasive radar technology used for the detection, localisation and three-dimensional mapping of tree root systems, as well as for specific investigations of tree stems.

This technology makes it possible to investigate conditions that are difficult to assess using conventional methods, including root distribution, interference between root systems and structures or infrastructure, and the potential impact of excavation and construction works.

TREE INVENTORIES, DESIGN AND MONITORING

The Studio’s activities also include:

  • botanical and phytopathological tree inventories, tree tagging and georeferencing;
  • high-precision cartographic mapping;
  • design of tree safety and conservation measures;
  • design of instrumental monitoring systems, including remote monitoring.
